September is a Mom’s New Year

Another “Mother New Year” – September is when mom’s new calendar starts. Children begin a new school year, some go to preschool, others begin kindergarten, and the big kids venture off into elementary, middle, and high school!

I loved my summer on Quadra Island where I had time to rest, reflect, and write about mothering.  My favorite times were when our children and grandchildren came to visit.  As your teacher, I am always learning, and our grandchildren provide many such opportunities.

As you get into the schedule of this year, remember that home is the foundation and base for all you do out in the world.  You are “keepers at home,” responsible for creating the environment and setting the tone.  You are laying the foundation so that your children are ready when they step out the door for school, for church, for sports, for music activities and eventually for University.  I hope you are motivated to learn and to grow and perhaps to even make some improvements?

Mothering comes with challenges.  Some of you feel overwhelmed by activities and schedules and wonder how you can do what must be done without “losing it.” Some moms are stressed trying to keep all the toys, shoes, and clothes picked up while trying to carve out time to spend with each child.  We are here to help you SURVIVE and even sometimes THRIVE by giving you tools as you connect and deal with your husband and children.

Need some monthly encouragement?  Check out some of our Moms groups on our site:  MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers, Lake Avenue Church), Moms Connect (First Presbyterian Church, Hollywood), and AIM (Adventures in Mothering, Warm an’ Loving Office).

We haven’t forgotten about Dads!  FIT (Fathers In Training, Lake Avenue Church) can help you and your spouse get on the same page as you partner and parent.
