Exodus 12:14,17 – This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord – a lasting ordinance . . . Celebrate . . . because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt.  Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.
Note: Â God tells us to celebrate!
- What do we celebrate?
- How long did God expect us to celebrate and pass it on?
- What celebrations do you repeat every year?  What do your  children learn about God in these holidays?
Deuteronomy 6:2-9 – . . . so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.  Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you . . . Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home, and when you walk along the road,  when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
- To make memories last, Â here is a list of our responsibilities as adults:
- hear God
- obey God
- recognize God is Lord
- love Him totally
- obey from the heart
- impress on your children
- Which of these do you do well? Â Which one(s) is(are) hard to do?
- Note the four time zones to “impress†on children…
- when you sit at home
- when you walk (drive?)
- when you lie down (night time rituals)
- when you get up
- When are you with your children? Â Â What do you do to impress them about your spiritual realities?
- How does your life and home remind your children that God is your God?
Deuteronomy 7:9 – Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.
God’s promise to us is long-term.  Thank him and pass it on to your generation!
