{"id":267,"date":"2012-05-07T10:00:25","date_gmt":"2012-05-07T17:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/?p=267"},"modified":"2012-05-07T09:55:06","modified_gmt":"2012-05-07T16:55:06","slug":"growing-in-self-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/growing-in-self-control\/","title":{"rendered":"Growing in Self-Control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/20120507-Post.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-271\" title=\"20120507 Post\" src=\"http:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/20120507-Post.jpg\" alt=\"Beckie Riggs Photography\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/20120507-Post.jpg 800w, https:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/20120507-Post-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We are nearing the end of the school year.\u00c2\u00a0 It is a time of joy and anticipation as students graduate, and summer is just around the corner.\u00c2\u00a0 At the same time, it is almost the end of the school year!\u00c2\u00a0 There are tests, projects, year-end activities, . . . when did it get so busy?\u00c2\u00a0 And then to think:\u00c2\u00a0 Will Joey ever remember to bring home his lunchbox?\u00c2\u00a0 Will Hailey remember to turn in her homework without a reminder?\u00c2\u00a0 How many jackets has Jesse lost this year?\u00c2\u00a0 Can my kids get through one afternoon without fighting?\u00c2\u00a0 How will my kid ever survive college?\u00c2\u00a0 Will he ever make it to class?<\/p>\n<p>One part of growing up is instilling discipline and self-control.\u00c2\u00a0 When we think about disciplining our children, we need to think about the word <strong>disciple<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 To disciple means <em>to teach, to train, to bring up<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 It involves <strong>modeling<\/strong> and <strong>mentoring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If your child struggles with <strong>self-control<\/strong>, here are a few tips that may help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Model self-control in your words and deeds when you are frustrated with a situation.<\/li>\n<li>Set limits and provide structure.\u00c2\u00a0 Children with self-regulation problems are internally &#8220;unstructured&#8221; and need predictability.<\/li>\n<li>Anticipate transitions and announce changes before they happen.<\/li>\n<li>When your child regulates themselves, reward them with freedom &amp; privileges.<\/li>\n<li>Separate siblings when they show lack of impulse control.\u00c2\u00a0 If your child is not &#8220;in control,&#8221; the problems just escalate.<\/li>\n<li>Remember that an aggressive child can create an atmosphere of chaos and fear that affect the whole family.\u00c2\u00a0 Set an atmosphere so your other children feel safe.<\/li>\n<li>Be patient as you make appropriate changes.<\/li>\n<li>Get professional help.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2 Timothy 3:15-17 says:<\/p>\n<p>. . . And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.\u00c2\u00a0 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for <strong>teaching, rebuking, correcting and training<\/strong> in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching &#8211;
