<\/em>I went to the Disney website and found a\u00c2\u00a0summary of job skills they were looking for in their applicants:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effective communication<\/li>\n<li>Works well in a team<\/li>\n<li>Analytical ability<\/li>\n<li>Computer proficiency<\/li>\n<li>Project management<\/li>\n<li>Detail oriented<\/li>\n<li>Builds relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am fortunate that I get to speak to moms whose children&#8217;s ages span from infants &amp; toddlers to tweens &amp; teens! \u00c2\u00a0When I saw this job description, I thought it was a great guide on how we should begin thinking about training and discipleship at home. \u00c2\u00a0What qualities does your child possess today?\u00c2\u00a0 What can you build in him for tomorrow?<\/p>\n<p>Is Susie an <strong>effective communicator<\/strong>? \u00c2\u00a0[Preschool] \u00c2\u00a0Teaching <em>please<\/em> and <em>thank you.<\/em> [Teen] \u00c2\u00a0Speaking with respect and confidence.<\/p>\n<p>Does Tommy <strong>work well in a team<\/strong>? \u00c2\u00a0[Preschool] Sharing toys, playing games. \u00c2\u00a0[Teen] \u00c2\u00a0Team sports, choral groups, student council &#8211; can he lead as well as compromise? \u00c2\u00a0Teaching good sportsmanship.<\/p>\n<p>Does Mary have good <strong>analytical skills<\/strong>? \u00c2\u00a0[Preschool] Teaching cause and effect. \u00c2\u00a0[Teen] \u00c2\u00a0Problem solving in life and in academics.<\/p>\n<p>Is Joey <strong>computer proficient<\/strong>? \u00c2\u00a0(This may be one where the children eventually teach their parents!) \u00c2\u00a0Because technology is changing so quickly, remember you are still in charge and make the\u00c2\u00a0boundaries. \u00c2\u00a0Being computer proficient doesn&#8217;t mean unlimited access, but responsible access.<\/p>\n<p>Can Ava be a <strong>project manager<\/strong>? \u00c2\u00a0[Preschool] \u00c2\u00a0Have them be in charge of small projects like setting the table, feeding the dog, watering the plants. \u00c2\u00a0[Teen] \u00c2\u00a0Teaching organization and time-management.<\/p>\n<p>Is Timothy <strong>detail-oriented<\/strong>? \u00c2\u00a0[Preschooler] Picking up the legos . . . all the legos. \u00c2\u00a0[Teen] \u00c2\u00a0Double checking and follow-through. \u00c2\u00a0Even if you aren&#8217;t wired to be meticulous and precise, you train and build good habits that help your child manage life&#8217;s details.<\/p>\n<p>Can Jamie <strong>build lasting relationships<\/strong>? \u00c2\u00a0[Preschool \/ Teen] \u00c2\u00a0Friendships and sibling relationships are perfect opportunities to work on all the weaknesses.<\/p>\n<p>Help train your child for tomorrow because college resumes are made up of 18 years of &#8220;todays&#8221;!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the years, I have helped a lot of my students prepare their college and scholarship applications. \u00c2\u00a0As I guide and advise them through the process, I wondered, &#8220;What is the world looking for?&#8221;
