{"id":176,"date":"2011-05-18T18:54:46","date_gmt":"2011-05-19T01:54:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/?p=176"},"modified":"2011-05-18T18:55:36","modified_gmt":"2011-05-19T01:55:36","slug":"providing-an-enriching-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/providing-an-enriching-environment\/","title":{"rendered":"Providing An Enriching Environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/201105PostCollage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-178\" title=\"School and Education\" src=\"http:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/201105PostCollage.jpg\" alt=\"Becki Riggs Photography\" width=\"630\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/201105PostCollage.jpg 900w, https:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/201105PostCollage-300x133.jpg 300w, https:\/\/warmanloving.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/201105PostCollage-280x125.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Education is a hot topic that engages parents in passionate conversations.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Should we start our 3-year-old in soccer?\u00c2\u00a0 When is a good time to begin preschool?\u00c2\u00a0 What is the right age to begin music?\u00c2\u00a0 What school should we choose:\u00c2\u00a0 Public, Christian, Private Prepratory, Homeschool? <\/em><em>Should we enroll in karate, swimming, dance, and SAT-prep?\u00c2\u00a0 How many activities is too many?\u00c2\u00a0 Too little?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And, if we sprinkle in a some of our own self-doubt:\u00c2\u00a0 <strong><em>&#8220;What if I make the wrong choice?\u00c2\u00a0 Will I ruin my child?!&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Education is about providing an enriching environment, and it is an extension of our home.\u00c2\u00a0 It is a combination of KNOWLEDGE (accumulation of facts) and WISDOM (wise application of facts).\u00c2\u00a0 Education is also multifaceted.\u00c2\u00a0 It includes academics, arts, athletics, and attitude.<\/p>\n<p>So what is a parent to do?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be realistic about your personality and gifting &amp; be realistic about YOUR CHILD&#8217;S personality and gifting.\u00c2\u00a0 It might not be the same.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware of your child&#8217;s needs (physical, mental, social, emotional, spiritual).<\/li>\n<li>Realize that you have a big job &#8211; Make sure you are qualified and dedicated.<\/li>\n<li>Do your research &#8211; Don&#8217;t accept other people&#8217;s opinions as the truth for you and your family.\u00c2\u00a0 What is best for the Browns may not work for the Lees.<\/li>\n<li>Plan social events with children unlike yours.<\/li>\n<li>Interface with other cultures, races, and socio-economic groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Look for opportunities to be <em>salt<\/em> &amp; <em>light<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>You are the salt of the earth. But if the  salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no  longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.\u00c2\u00a0 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they  put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. <\/em><span><em>In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.<\/em> (Matthew 5:13-15)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evaluate annually &#8211; It is okay to make changes and adjust your plans to fit your child&#8217;s changing needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bottom line is to BE INVOLVED and BE AVAILABLE.\u00c2\u00a0 From ages 0-12, <strong>talk<\/strong> to your kids . . . A LOT!\u00c2\u00a0 From age 12 and on,<strong> listen<\/strong> to your kids and keep asking questions.\u00c2\u00a0 There are challenges with each educational option, so as a parents we need to overlap and compensate for what may be lacking.\u00c2\u00a0 Learning does not just happen between 8 AM-3 PM.\u00c2\u00a0 It is going on 24\/7 and interwoven into life.\u00c2\u00a0 Provide opportunities for enrichment, but be sure not to live out your own dreams through your child.\u00c2\u00a0 Facilitate their dreams.<\/p>\n<p>Pray for your child and with your child.\u00c2\u00a0 As children grow older, it is good for them to see that when Mom &amp; Dad were faced with some big decisions, they brought it before the Lord.\u00c2\u00a0 Parents are the general contractors of their child&#8217;s education.\u00c2\u00a0 God is our architect!<\/p>\n<p><em>Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(1 John 4:4 NASB)<\/p>\n<p><em>So do not fear, for I am with you; <\/em><br \/>\n<em> do not be dismayed, for I am your God. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>I will strengthen you and help you; <\/em><br \/>\n<em> I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Isaiah 41:10 NIV)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>And no . . . you will not ruin your child!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Education is a hot topic that engages parents in passionate conversations.\u00c2\u00a0 Should we start our 3-year-old in soccer?\u00c2\u00a0 When is a good time to begin preschool?\u00c2\u00a0 What is the right age to begin music?\u00c2\u00a0 What school should we choose:\u00c2\u00a0 Public, Christian, Private Prepratory, Homeschool?
