What should I do?<\/p>\n<p>Thanks, Annette<\/p>\n<p><em>Dear Annette,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Thanks for writing.\u00c2\u00a0 I will say that children go through shy stages and that is okay.\u00c2\u00a0 However, you continue to teach what is polite,<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153When someone says hello to you, you need to answer!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153You can choose if you want to say &#8216;hello,&#8217; or &#8216;hi!&#8217;\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Practice with her at home &#8211; with dad, grandma or a friend.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;Pretend I am Suzie,&#8221; and then role play.\u00c2\u00a0 Give her praise when she is friendly. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153That was very polite!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is just a part of teaching social skills.\u00c2\u00a0 Having a new baby brother can impact behavior because frankly her world has changed! Continue teaching and practicing through it all.
